Virtual Jobs: The Freedom of Working From Home for Moms

A virtual job gives you the ability to work from home and look after your family, and afford you the flexibility of working your hours.

The advent of the internet means working from home, or “telecommuting” is now a reality.

No longer do you need to sit in traffic and work a part time job just because you want to look after your family, or because you’re unable to travel. Now you can work in any job you want, from any place you want, worldwide - whether it’s a beach in Tahiti, or an office in the back room of your home.

But if you want to work from home, it’s important to understand what you’re going to be getting yourself into before you begin.

Be Dedicated To The Job At Hand:

To work from home, it’s critical that you dedicate enough hours per day to complete the daily tasks required.

Many people find it’s easy to get distracted, or have other things to do when there is no boss watching, and this is the biggest stumbling block for many new virtual assistants, and virtual office workers.

Although telecommuting provides you the flexibility to work the hours you want, the nature of the job means that you need to be a self-starter - and you need to be able to allocate enough hours per day to make training and outsourcing work to you beneficial to your employer - not just to you.

Know Where To Find Work:

If you are starting in the growing virtual assistance market, the best place to start is by working for someone else.

This will give you valuable experience and training in working remotely that you can then (at a later stage) translate into creating your own virtual assisting service.

Once you have done this, you can approach your previous clients (assuming you are not prohibited to do so by your previous employment agreement), and begin attracting clients of your own.

Elance, Rent A Coder, and other sites like these are fantastic places to find virtual jobs.

Newspapers, former employers, former co-workers, trade newspapers and local newspapers are also fantastic places to look.

And it’s handy to join a small business group in order to meet people who may be in need of your services.
